1. Who we are
Unicentre Technology ("Unicentre", "we", "us") sells and repairs laptops, monitors, desktop computers and accessories from our shop at Ubungo-Mawasiliano Bus Stand (Simu 2000), P.O Box 55040, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. Our contact details are in section 13.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to sell to you, serve you, and run our business.
Information you give us
| When | What we collect |
|---|---|
| Creating an account | Name, email address, phone number, and a password (stored only in scrambled, "hashed" form that we cannot read). |
| Placing an order | Name, phone number, the items you order, and any notes you add, such as a delivery location. |
| Buying in our shop, or on Lipa MdoMdo | Name, phone number, email (optional), and TIN if you ask for a VAT receipt. For Lipa MdoMdo plans we also keep your payment history. |
| Repairs and warranty claims | Name and contact details, device details (such as brand, model and serial number), the fault reported, and the work done. |
| Contacting us | What you tell us by WhatsApp, phone, email or in person. |
Information from sign-in providers
If you choose to sign in with Google, Facebook or LinkedIn, that provider shares your name, email address, and an account identifier with us. We do not receive your password for those services, and we do not post anything on your behalf.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our server records basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested. We use it to keep the site secure and working. We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics on this website.
Payment information
This website does not take payments, and we do not collect or store your card details. When you pay by mobile money or bank transfer, we keep the transaction reference and amount to confirm your payment.
3. How we use your information
- To handle your orders and purchases: confirming availability and price, arranging delivery or collection, taking payment, and issuing receipts.
- To provide after-sales service: warranty claims, repairs, job cards, and Lipa MdoMdo statements.
- To communicate with you about your order, repair or account, usually by WhatsApp, phone, SMS or email.
- To run your account and keep it secure.
- To meet legal duties, such as tax and accounting records and EFD receipts.
- To protect you and us by preventing fraud and misuse, and by keeping our systems secure.
- To improve our service, for example by understanding which products customers ask about.
We will only send you promotional messages if you have agreed to receive them, and you can opt out at any time.
4. Why we are allowed to use it
We use personal information only where we have a lawful reason to, namely:
- Contract: it is needed to sell to you or provide a service you asked for.
- Legal obligation: the law requires it, for example tax records.
- Legitimate interests: running and protecting our business in ways you would reasonably expect, such as preventing fraud.
- Consent: for example, when you choose to sign in with a social account or to receive promotions. You can withdraw consent at any time.
5. When we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only when needed, and only with:
- Delivery partners: your name, phone number and delivery location, so they can deliver your order.
- Payment providers (mobile money operators and banks), when they process a payment you make to us.
- Communication platforms such as WhatsApp (Meta), when you choose to contact us or complete an order through them. Their own privacy policies also apply.
- Sign-in providers (Google, Facebook, LinkedIn), only if you choose to use them.
- Specialist technicians who help with a repair. They receive only the device and job details they need.
- Service providers who host our website, systems and email for us, under a duty to keep the information confidential.
- Authorities such as the Tanzania Revenue Authority, courts or the police, when the law requires it or to protect rights, property or safety.
- A new owner, if our business is sold or restructured, under the same protections set out in this policy.
6. Cookies and browser storage
We keep this to the minimum needed for the website to work:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Session cookie | Keeps you signed in as you move between pages. It is deleted when your session ends. |
| Cart and wishlist (your browser's local storage) | Remembers the items you add. This is stored only on your own device and is not sent to us until you place an order. |
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The website loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when the page loads. You can clear cookies and local storage in your browser settings at any time. If you do, you will be signed out and your cart will be emptied.
7. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy:
- Sales, receipts and payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require.
- Warranty and repair records are kept at least until the warranty ends, and for as long as we reasonably need them to support you afterwards.
- Account information is kept while your account is open. You can ask us to delete it (see section 9).
- Messages and enquiries are kept only as long as needed to deal with them.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it or make it anonymous.
8. How we protect information
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including:
- encrypted (HTTPS) connections;
- passwords stored only in hashed form;
- access to customer records limited to staff who need it, each with a personal login;
- regular backups.
No system is completely secure. Protect your account by using a strong password and not sharing it. If we become aware of a breach that affects your information, we will act promptly and notify you and the authorities where the law requires.
9. Your rights and choices
Under Tanzanian data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- Delete information we no longer need, or no longer have a lawful reason to keep;
- Object to, or ask us to restrict, certain uses of your information;
- Withdraw consent where we rely on it, including for promotional messages;
- Complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission of Tanzania if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information.
To use any of these rights, contact us using the details in section 13. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within the time the law allows. Some records, such as tax records, we may have to keep even if you ask us to delete them, and we will tell you if that applies.
10. Children
This website is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian. If you think a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Where information is processed
Our main systems are managed from Tanzania. Some of the service providers we use, such as hosting, email, WhatsApp and sign-in providers, may process information in other countries. Where that happens, we rely on providers that apply appropriate safeguards, in line with Tanzanian data protection law.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we add new services or the law changes. The latest version is always on this page, with its effective date at the top. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we will make it clear on the website before it takes effect.
